Alica Synek Rétiová is an assistant professor of sociology at Masaryk University. Her research activities focus on the topics of migration, social movements, and the civil sphere, from a cultural-sociological perspective. She has extensive experience in qualitative and interview-based research. Alica has recently finished her PhD studies with a thesis on the conflict over LGBTQ rights in the civil sphere of Slovakia, exploring the meaning-making of progressive and conservative activists. Besides her research activities, she also enjoys teaching courses in the Sociology of Culture and Introductory Seminars on Social Theories. Currently, she is also employed as a researcher in a project on the systematic support of professional development for teachers, at the Czech National Pedagogical Institute.
